Bharat Ko Bachaa Le Vidhaata!

When was the last time a SONG stirred us to realize the reality of our current state?

When I was writing this song, I wanted to capture the emotions of a situation in the film where the citizens of India are asked to wake up; To wake up and realize that we are not being fair to the country by letting anti-national powers flourish for their personal gains, that we are surrendering the very freedom that we fought for, that we are dividing the country when we should actually stand up united for it’s progress.

Now, if we had used lines like “Jaag jao… Bhaarat ko bachaao’ or ‘Humari jaan Hindustaan’, maximum reaction would have been a yawn or a raise of an eyebrow.

Or both, if somebody really liked it and were generous.

It would NOT have made people sit up and think about the current state.

Diverting from the song for a moment, the Election Commission started many campaigns this year to urge Indians to come out and vote yet the turnout was only around 50%

It’s not like we don’t care.

It’s just that we don’t care enough to make an effort to even elect the best men to decide the future and fate of our country.

We are comfortably numb and almost sleepy to what is happening to us.

And how do we wake up a person who is asleep?

Do we sing lullaby to him?

Or do we shrug him and shake him out of sleep?

As the script demanded it, with this song the characters want to shrug and shake people out of their slumber; make them realize that India is wounded. It needs us, the citizens to come forward and help it.

By now, we were clear that we wanted the song to be intense and hard-hitting; an eye-opener!! Any ‘Jaag jao… Bhaarat ko bachaao’ wouldn’t have served the purpose.

Since the film RANN is not about a battle fought on the borders of India but it is about the battle that all of us fight within ourselves, the words were meant to express “There is a battle in the minds of all people” and literally they translated into ‘Jana Gann Mana Rann hai’. This was the birth of this song.

Yes, there is a reference to the respected National Anthem of our country but this song is NOT our National Anthem nor is it demeaning or insulting it in any way. While the National Anthem speaks about India and Victory, this song talks about the ‘need’ to achieve that victory by keeping India united today. Infact it reaffirms all the goodness that the National Anthem stands for. But at the end of the day, it is just a song by itself pertaining to the script and the scenes of the film.

How can you call it National Anthem when there are 100 different words used in it? (Yes I counted, 100 words!!)

Kindly go through the lyrics once and decide for yourself if there is any insult to India…

Kindly understand the intent before blindly judging the content…

Kindly ask yourself if you don’t really want India to be free from all corruption, bloodshed and destruction…

Kindly be honest…

And yes, you can count the 100 different words here too (They are the ones not bold)

Jana Gann Mana Rann hai

…is Rann mein

Zakhmi Bhaarat ka Bhaagya Vidhaata

Punjab Sindh Gujrat Maratha

Ek doosre se ladd ke mar rahein hai

Is desh ne humko ek kiya

Aur hum desh ke tukde kar rahein

Dravid Utkal Banga

Khoon bahaa ker, ek rang ka

…kar diya humne tiranga

Sarhadon pe jung aur

…Galiyon mein fasaad danga

Vindh Himachal Yamuna Ganga

Mein tezaab ubal raha hai

Mein tezaab ubal raha hai

Mar gaya sab ka zameer

Jaane kab zinda ho aagey

Phir bhi Tava shubh naame jaage

Tava shubh aashish maange

Aag mein jal kar cheekh raha hai

Phir bhi koi nahi bachaata

Gaahe tava jaya gaatha

Desh ka aisa haal hai lekin

Aapas mein ladd rahein Neta

Jana Gann Mangal daayak jaya hai

Bhaarat ko bacha le Vidhaata!!!

Jaya hai – Ya yeh – Marann hai

Jana – Gann – Mana – Rann hai

This song reinforces and urges citizens to respect India, its greatness and it’s National Anthem.

If anyone thinks that it is a crime to ask Indians to stand up and help India be the glorious Country that it was, then I have only one thing to say…

“BHAARAT   KO   BACHAA   LE   VIDHAATA”

– Sarim Momin (Lyricist of Jana Gana Mana RANN)

  1. Swamy says:

Tagore would have appreciated your updations…which are in sync with the time.

  2. Shalini says:

Is it just my laptop? or the text is actually written in white on gray background?

  3. Shalini says:

Ramu, are you reading this??""It’s not like we don’t care. It’s just that we don’t care enough to make an effort to even elect the best men to decide the future and fate of our country. We are comfortably numb and almost sleepy to what is happening to us.""

  4. Shalini says:

Dear Mr.Sarim Momin, I really like the song. I don\’t see any insult to India. This is my opinion and my opinion only. All the friends that I made listen to this song also said the same thing. And tell Ramu there is no need to touch my feet for that..;o)But there is no text I saw that is asking Indians to wake up and do some thing..But points out what is going on in the country very well though.Though nicely written..it still is a bold lyric….

  5. Ashwani says:

Dear R.G Verma, I believe you are not an Indian or I can say Not True Indian – Here you are trying to sell National Anthem, which is as respectful as our mothers. What you are trying to communicate the world that India is not the place to live – than why not you go to some other country. But I am sure now nobody would like to permit you to live on their land. Shame on you and also Shame on Big B – who is part of this song. Do Amitabh is so helpless that he is singing song like this. I have lost all the respect, which I had for you and Big B. Please Please do not make fun of our country and stop playing with emotions of millions of Indians.

  6. celeste says:

ahem… Ram: I cannot read this post and the previous one. I don\’t know why. But I\’m delighted by all the gifts you\’re giving your fans these days. Thanks for your kindness. But it\’s a bit dangerous: what if we get the habit?(Shalini: I\’m going to Rome tomorrow morning. Tomorrow, at this time… I\’ll be locked in a theatre watching Indian films on big screen, at last!!!!! If I may, I\’ll write you from there. Coming back home on Monday. Ciao darling!)

  7. celeste says:

I forgot: I don\’t know what\’s happening about Indian National Anthem and your film, Ram (Shalini, please: explain to me by e-mail. Thanks, dear), but I remember WHAT Sex Pistols did with the British one… So, Ram, is a true punk soul hidden in an Indian body?Oh: I\’ve watched \’Aks\’, and I was very very impressed by your friend Manoj\’s acting. Brilliant!

  8. celeste says:

Shalini!!!!!! What\’s the meaning of \’highlight\’????? What shall I do exactly?????

  9. Shalini says:

Celeste, Just select the tittle and drag down..

  10. celeste says:

    (Shalini: THANKS!!!!!!)

  11. Shalini says:

Celeste, did you get it? sure thing.. I\’ll write you an eamil tomorrow abt the National Anthem Issue. and don\’t call Manoj Ramu\’s friend..I don\’t think they are in terms. ;o)..Have fun in Rome.Sorry Ramu…for using you space…won\’t happen again..

  12. celeste says:

(done. thanks) (and why is Manoj nomore Ram\’s friend? please, e-mail me also about that)

  13. kedar says:

A person who has drowned himself in liquor and woman is not to be taken seriously…even if he tries to make a social statement, IGNORE it and keep walking on path of life…its futile to fight them…for it is a rule of the time to worship whores and praise demons! TATA

  14. Unknown says:

I See this blog and previous blog as just BLANK page. There is nothing written over there except the title. Do you guys find anything? How to resolve this issue? Is it something to do with browser setting or some installation needed? Please help.

  15. satya says:

Hey Guys, I have seen this background issue before & it may be a bug from microsoft. For those who want view the content the easiest way is to right click mouse on empty space below the title & click on "select ALL" & that would do the magic.

  16. Ashvin says:

Satya\’s comment help you read the article…don\’t panic guys..just the Background color and the font color might have been the same….!!no big deal.

  17. sLm says:

@ashwaniif u r really concerned about National Anthem, if politication can not u take of problems that have been emphasized so that such thing is never happened again…by any one..or be quiet just go away???

  18. Ajax says:

Press "Control+A" to read the blog… some problem with the background and foreground colors, I guess….

  19. Anil says:

Hey RGV,Just now I heard song … " nee navvu cheppindi … naatho …" from "Antham"( Drohi )Awesome song that was… I think during your early stages.. your movies came up with good sensible music. You lost your sensibility on love and emotions…. so now a days we are not getting good music from your movies. You are now passionate more about lust and animal sex …. so your songs resembles your attitude – Anil

  20. Anil says:

With respect controversial on this song …. No harm with these controversiesNow a days everybody is benefiting from controversies …Organizations who are making controversies …. [ Identity crisis … blah blah … ]Media to raise their TRP ratings ….and You ( Free publicity … and always be on media before ur movie release )finally people ( Escapists like me …. who are just enjoying these controversies and gossips … to get break from our routine lives )

  21. Raju says:

To view the text just "Press Ctrl+A" from your key board.

  22. surap says:

we dont find any insult to this country in this lyrics so far..but taking reference of the national anthem to your very commercial movie is not at all excusable.. let the National anthem as its own respect..its own way… you are claiming that there are 100 more words in this lyrics aprt from its origin words..i am strongly suggesting, why dont you leave 42 actual National anthem words, and compile a new song with any other millions of words… and you given an example with election related stuff. ..you know, your so called director of this film, never believe in Indian election setup ..so far he never voted , nor he is going to be….

  23. kiran kumar says:

Dear Ramu sir,I really like your scene in SHIVA(Nag\’s), where NIRMALAMMA (Malli\’s mother) slaps the police inspector when he ask for the statement after the brutal murder of her son…I felt like she slapped entire police department…I never saw such a gr8 scene in any other movies…I really appreciate your screenplay writing skills. On other hand I found, in the middle of the movie hero Shiva (Nag) says he dont want to take personal revange on raghuvaran but at the end he will kill raghuvaran for the revenge of his bro\’s daughter murder…how did u justify this…is it something you didn\’t find any other way to end the movie…?Kiran Kumar.

  24. Parixit says:

RGV sir,I liked the song, It reveals the naked and cruel truth. But people in India don\’t like to accept the reality, tell them "Mera bharat Mahan", tell them "India has Ekta me Anekta", Tell them "India is this India is that", praise India as much as you can without considering the truth and reality, they will start worshiping you.It\’s even more painful that you have to explain………….but don\’t stop by these kinda filthy barricades, let them fly in their own emotional indulgence, make more and more movies, still there are a few people who can understand you and your work, It\’s our RANN.

  25. VJ says:

The song is not cleared by Censor Board. That\’s a blessing in disguise as the song is not so good or appealing, not to mention the bad rhyming and slaughter of sweet Bengali flow of Jana Gana Mana. Media is a headless chicken. Blaming it of sinister motives is not proper. Media is business and so is cinema. Good or bad I am gonna watch RaNNThe silver lining of the promo event in Delhi is at least a consolation as Ramu didn\’t sulk or complain.

  26. VJ says:

It\’s a huge improvement that Ritesh Deshmukh is seen showing acting skills. Ramu\’s penchant for Hyderabad style daadis is intriguing as nobody in media (esp those who appear on TV screens) sport them. Lets see what\’s what in the actual movie.

  27. Vinay says:

Where is the damn blog entry? Cant see anything!

  28. Vinay says:

Whatever this Madhu Mantena guy touches, seems to turn gold. He\’s the guy who produced Ghajini. Dunno how he accumulated so much in so little time. I hear he started out with RGV in Mumbai (at the time of "Road") and after a couple of years, he\’s producing a RGV film. Wonderul!Another thing is Sudeep is turning out to be lucky for RGV films.

  29. sripal says:

\’Yeh desh kabi nahi badlega !!\’ this is a dialogue from Rang De Basanti and that movie was chosen by the Indian govt. as the official entry for Oscars. I don\’t think sensor board will cut the song unless the song is not needed and unless it is used for pure commercial purpose. I don\’t think its a pure commercial with one Hero, two heroines, 5 duets, 4 fights etc. But cant say. I personally feel that its ok to comment the nation when the comment is true. After all its our responsibility to take care of it (if we really care). RGV often says that he never voted, and doesn\’t care but well, I guess some of his movies like Shiva, Gayam, Dil Se, show the moviemakers true frustration on the things happening with the nation and now he is back again i guess. I say its great if the song is not sensored. Just curious and i know its a stupid question. Is this song the first of its kind (with part of national anthem lyrics and tune) in the world?

  30. Unknown says:

I want Chennai to be renamed as Madras.I also want Bihar and Jharkhand to be united as before. Can you tak up this cause in one of your documentaries? Thanks

  31. sripal says:

I guess the video and the blog entries are removed as instructed by the board !!@below, What will you achieve by renaming Chennai to Madras ? None of my business. Just curious.

  32. chandra says:

It\’s bad that Censor Board asked to remove the song..I don\’t think it\’s derogatory…I think Censor Board is in Defense mode..before some Hinduvta Guys taking advantage and making it a big issue…they just asked to remove it..just don\’t care about the song…If the movie is good….

  33. sLm says:

Censor Board can only pass scenes fake eye opners with body show…not these eye openers..they can never answer why u hav don dis???

  34. Pradeep says:

Do u Think "Controversies" and "Ram Gopal Varma" are Friends?

  35. Purna says:

hi Ramu ,In sarkar raj why is that most of the times you show only half the faces of the characters especially amithab ?

  36. Ashwani says:

@AMR SINGHBefore you comment, reconcile your self. You are here to comment on the song not on my opinions.

  37. sha says:

You have given break to so many actors..When my number will come sir?

  38. Shalini says:

    Ah..now that looks better..;o)

  39. sLm says:

today i read times of india in the entertainment section the the news about rann and ur statement "I have done it for publicity" – RGV i loved it..u r still my best

  40. E says:

This is vitriolic…!!!!The media is just trying to rub you the wrong way. You are trying to expose them….and they are bit shaky about this. It was always a risky business to be critical about them..I am not sure what is the gist of RANN…but sure it points to something. They are upto mischief man. Whoever planted this idea….that the national anthem has been dishonored, demeaned, denigrated….has done it with ulterior motives…common aren\’t we a bunch of hyprocrites..we dont have any problem when a foreigner makes movie about us..shows the filthy side about us…we go about the town celebrating it…the level of self-flagellation was supremely high and it is still high…we have gave approval to it..we unanimously Jai Hoed it….we even dont have a problem when some nuthead senator in US calls the entire Indian community as slumdogs…..we seem to be a sick…but when a song is written only to make us think..we are having problems….well this hounding will continue buddy…somebody out there either doesn\’t like your work..or is having extreme grudges against you…there are very few sane people out there…..!!!CherioEV

  41. Varun says:

Sir you should get the national award for best lyrics this year. This is not just the best lyrics I have heard in the past few years but also the most realistic. And dont worry about the dogs who say that this song insults the National anthem. It has given a new life to the national anthem. I downloaded this video and showed it to my family and for 5 minutes they were just stunned in silence. Indeed it is most impactful. Today my faith in Rgv\’s music has been restored after Rangeela. Way to go. And dont worry, all of India is with you on this one. Once again, Hats off to you!!!

  42. Vinay says:

Sarim I really wonder how we have evolved so much in all the fields, inspite of resistance from formidable quarters. In fact when we heard the song, we felt "Wow what a rockin song". Now that you have explained the rationale behind it, it seems all the more relevant and apt. We must have evolved, mainly because people like you and RGV have managed to revolt as well as been able to "stay". I really hope that RGV would have blasted the reviewers and opinion columns in media in his Rann.

  43. Varun says:

@truth hurts, this might HURT you a little as this is TRUTH but it is foolish people like you who give india a bad name. we need a change and this song is the first step towards it. every line in it is true.

  44. lprakash says:

Nobody cares a damn for the nation (me included). If a song could change the world, \’ae mere watan ke logo\’, \’gurus of peace\’ would\’ve done it. These are stupid gimmicks to promote a film, and the song truly rocks. Chuck the pretentious intentions behind writing it. Da Vinci never explained why he created Mona Lisa. So can you guys (sarim momin and rgv) just shut up and let the song speak for itself?

  45. Varun says:

@truth hurtsPeople like you who want to supress something that can bring a change in youth give India a bad name.If speaking your mind is not crime then why is it crime for rgv to speak his mindelections are fair? You know nothing.more forign currency but indian currency exchnage rate is all time highand these indian satellites are not monitoring terrorist activities so we can stop those *ssh0les from terrorising India?I\’ll point out your mistake after this post. have a meeting now.

  46. unknown says:

Can anyone explain the exact meaning of our original national anthem? And who is Vidhaata in the song??

  47. unknown says:

Nice to see the posters of Rann in black and white. Especially second poster is awesome because except the tie everything else in black and white.

  48. Unknown says:

I quite agree with you on this issue. Please check out my post for details :http://iyerdeepak.wordpress.com/2009/05/11/jana-gana-mana-rann/

  49. vaishak says:

Hi ramu,I don\’t know from which date you and your team started to love the country. In fact, you guys were not into social welfare, but into self welfare and was not feeling patriotic [ this one you replied for my reaction in the past]. Now suddenly one of your \’buddha\'[ yes, the enlightened one] started to care about india and its people. Oh my god, and their problems too. Hats off to the team. In fact, all of you guys should consult a psychiatrist to find out what kind of a disease is this..? All of sudden , Ayn rands turns into mahatma gandhi and even Netaji subhash chandra bose. Do you guys wake up at different places which you never knew, in the moring..? If so there might be a chance for the disease can be multiple personality disorder. I don\’t know how your whole team got affected by this disease..? May be because conitnous watching of channels like CNN IBN, NDTV and Times Now. Man, just relax, take a breath and now think about yourself. You take care of yourself , thats more than enough. There is no need of a messiah or a few messiahs to enlight people of india. You just en light yourself, that will do.Anyway sensitive people who are aware of Indian politics know your team\’s sincerity in the motive and propaganda is not a sin. But when you are committing some thing so \’brave\’ [with the protection of people with vested interest] , you don\’t have to be afraid. I wish all the best Mr. Salim Momin in shaking indians and making them \’aware\’ of its own state and i want to tell him that he has got more scope because now there is national flag,Pledge, national animal, bird, symbol for him to shake [ i mean shake indians and making them aware…]Who is VIDHAATA…?Vidhaatha can be one person, one organisation or one nation. Anyway, most people outside india, think indians can\’t do anything right without a master. So some people are searching for a master. But its only 62 years since we got freedom and dudes and dudettes want to give it back to the master. Hello, believe in yourself, you can also protect your nation, no need to cry for another political organisation to come from outside and save .P.S – I know nobody might agree with me but ….."They understand me not: I am not the mouth for these ears.Too long, perhaps, have I lived in the mountains; too much have Ihearkened unto the brooks and trees: now do I speak unto them asunto the goatherds.Calm is my soul, and clear, like the mountains in the morning. Butthey think me cold, and a mocker with terrible jests. And now do they look at me and laugh: and while they laugh they hateme too. There is ice in their laughter."- Thus spake Zarathustra- Frederik Nietzsche

  50. surap says:

I agree with Viashak\’s remarks on RGV Team … the person who never bother about the political system of this country… all of suddenly..now raising constitutional rights to save his soul…. its damn fluid attitude of RGV …..Any how this great nation allows him to fight back for his rights..

  51. Unknown says:

@Sarim : Forgot to add, the lyrics are one of the best of recent times, without doubt. Please do check this post : http://iyerdeepak.wordpress.com/2009/05/11/jana-gana-mana-rann/

  52. Jaisankar says:

Hello vaishak nambiar……u havn\’t understand the genious behind the ramu…….think…think….think…. he knows everything is in it?

  53. unknown says:

Who is VIDHAATA…?Vidhaatha can be one person, one organisation or one nation.thanks for clarification but some people say that the word refers to "GOD".

  54. sLm says:

ur song reminded me of Ek Tara Bole.track frm the movie Yadgaar..

  55. Viru says:

Hi Sir,Sir Dont u think that "It Is Easy to wake the person up who is Asleep but how can we make the person Wake up who is alredy awakened n pretending to sleep?"RegardsMs Viraj Bhatt

  56. Unknown says:

Hi Ramugaru,While i have no legal knowledge about this issue, i am sure NATIONAL ANTHEM cant be sung any anyone in a inappropriate manner not its lyrics be rewritten. Doing so wold be equal to disrespecting the nation itself hence i wud agree with courts order to delete the song. I understand your intentions in making this song but if this was approved, few fundamentalist indian muslims wud sing national anthem in ISLAMIC way as they are seriously opposed to national anthem wherein the nation has been referred to, as MOTHER. Cheerssamudra

  57. Unknown says:

What percentage of the viewers do you think really get what the director is trying to convey? Like, 5% viewers get 100% of your message?

  58. suyash says:

"Diverting from the song for a moment, the Election Commission started many campaigns this year to urge Indians to come out and vote yet the turnout was only around 50%"… Did you vote?

  59. sreeniwas says:

seriously, when are you remaking \’AAG\’???forget about rakhtha charithra dude…come to anantapur…we\’ll remake AAG..i\’m not kidding

  60. VijayDirects says:

\’Publicity\’ is a fact of life in cinema. In this age of satellite TV and media, it has become an end in itself. Just because something was done for publicity, it does not automatically become bad.At the sametime, just because publicity was done with good intentions, it does not automatically result in good outcome. Ironically the media, which is itself one instrument of pubilicty has made \’PUBLICITY\’ a dirty word thru its vernacular. If we question:- RGV\’s intentions, then all we can do is believe what he says.- RGV\’s actions, then he must have done something really sacrilegious which only the outcome will decide. In either case, I guess questioning does not change anything if you are not Censor Board. I personally do not want any of my work to be censored.

  61. Shiva says:

This song will lead the revolution for a better tomorrow in India sarimji. Every indian is proud of you. Myself has framed these lyrics and put them on my office wall.I am glad that somebody is doing something to wake up the young generation. by the way, what is your age?

  62. Shiva says:

Ram I never liked your work but you have won my respect with this song. i will watch this film now. and it will be after 17 years that i will step in a theatre again. thank you.

  63. Bhaskar says:

INDIAN POLITICIANS replaced the BRITISH RULERS. BRITISH RULERS banned Jana Gana Mana and Vande Mataram songs earlier to independence. As the songs convey the prominence of India which would create energy in Indians, so that they would fight much harder not to loose the great country to others, British Rulers banned the songs and punished people whoever sung them. INDIAN POLITICIANS (with the help of censor board) banned now this song Jana Gana Mana Runn. As it represented the present status of India, it would bring awareness among people about the dusty politicians. Is there any difference between BRITISH RULERS AND INDIAN POLITICIANS? May be our politicians are richer than them, that’s all!!!RGV might don’t care about the India or about its future, but as an Indian, he has right to describe the status of it with the song.

  64. raja says:

For telling others to do good, one need not be good. So many writers who have influenced so many people might have not followed what they told. They just put their ideas, may be they wanted others to follow them or they wanted fame and money. One will get influenced with their ideas without bothering about the writer\’s character and behaviour because most of the readers or viewer\’s don\’t know the inside of the writer. If they likeit they will follow otherwise they wont. So you are telling to Ramu not to preach anything just because he opened up infront of all telling that for him he is the most important. How many people whom you have seen might have told you in similar fashion? My guess is very less persons or no persons. Does that mean they are not selfish? So dont go by person\’s personal behaviour, just go by his work or views.

  65. Samar says:

Dear Ramu, I knew it was coming. Remember when you made Govinda Govinda the censor board were so crap about the whole thing? Well it took them more than 15 years to realise. If they keep brushing away new ideas no one can encourage the youth. It\’s high time they understood youth (sensible anyway) nowadays give a lot of importance to the lyrics of the songs.BTW Ramu I have a script in mind for you. Would you honestly read it if I sent it accross? SamarLondon

  66. Gokul says:

SARIM…I AGREE 100% WITH YOU.But still I want to fight you for having it tuned to our National Anthem. I want to fight fiercely but deep inside I am praying for you to win.I am fighting becaz tomorrow using this victory of yours some other #@@$%%@@ would take courage to take it a bit further and make it a little more derogatory and another one a little more…and…more…So that tomorrow if anyone is attempting will be very cautious to touch something like this….and will be true to the spirit rather than some promotional gimmick.Welcome to this RANN.GoCoolNew Jersey

  67. Abhishek says:

All these derogatory comments have created among curiosity among lots of people. And the chain email that is doing rounds these days mentions that Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka, is the national anthem was written by Rabindranath Tagore in honor of King George V and the Queen of England when they visited India in 1919. To honor their visit Pandit Motilal Nehru had the five stanzas included , which are in praise of the King and Queen.(And most of us think it is in the praise of our great motherland!! Nehru chose the present national anthem as opposed to Vande Mataram because he thought that it would be easier for the band to play!! While I am not sure about the authenticity of this information, what amazes me is the way facts are originated. And as rightly said by you in one of your posts" Sometimes saying truth repeatedly becomes a lie and repeatedly saying a lie becomes a truth" …And tomorrow what if the media says that RGV is masquerading as a patriot??

  68. Jonah says:

how much credit do you take upon your shoulders for the 50% turnout in elections this year.. you know because of your denial comment on this blog?you don\’t vote and you ask Indians to come forward to change India thru a song?shrugging and waking up a sleeping man result in two things..1. either the sleeping person reacts violently to the purpose he was woken upor2. he slaps the person who woke him up vehemently.but seriously .. i like the lyrics of the song…. specially this.. Mar gaya sab ka zameerJaane kab zinda ho aageyPhir bhi Tava shubh naame jaageTava shubh aashish maangeif this song is censored. re-tune the same lyrics.. if you can.. probably vande-mataram this time??? ha h aaa

  69. Unknown says:

I dont think this is a slight on the national anthem… It is as good or as bad as Vandemataram by AR Rehman… I just fail to understand why such hue and cry is made out of anything done by you… 🙂 perhaps the music couldve been better… just my view.. heheh

Ramu, There\’s nothing offensive abt the lyrics, at least theoretically. It\’s not out of respect but the song didn\’t sound well as the rhyming was lopsided. U have RGV\’s name and Amitacbh\’s presence. U dont need any naatakbaazi (Jana Gana Mana.. song) to promote RANN. Since u r a top-notch Alpha male it\’s difficult to convince u on anything. Best of Luck.

  72. VJ says:

Ramu, U r extra smart. Aren\’t yu?"Diverting from the song for a moment, the Election Commission started many campaigns this year to urge Indians to come out and vote yet the turnout was only around 50% It’s not like we don’t care. It’s just that we don’t care enough to make an effort to even elect the best men to decide the future and fate of our country. We are comfortably numb and almost sleepy to what is happening to us. And how do we wake up a person who is asleep?Do we sing lullaby to him?Or do we shrug him and shake him out of sleep?"We know from ur blogs that u NEVER voted nor going to vote in future. Doesn\’t the above homily sound hypocritical?Haha. Whatevah Ramu, I luvv u man.

There is a lot of hue and cry over your much over hyped Jana gana Rana dhina tanaa or what ever. But that song sounds so much immature and childish. My concern is not about you using "Jana Gana Mana" tune, but the way the lyrics were written and the tune was made. I think the lyric writer should understand the difference between writing an "ESSAY" and writing "LYRICS". Just for the sake of creating hype you guys tried to smudge in some fancy words into the national anthem tune which is not so rhyming. I think rather than you counting the number of words that are matching in Jana gana mana and your dhim tana rana bana gaana, why dont you ask your music director and that essay writer to write one more Essay that fits into the tune?

  74. Vicky says:

I agree with Ravi,This Jana Gana Mana song is sounding like an essay without any rhyming. One should listen atleast 100 times to start liking this non-song.I think censor board helped you by banning. Be grateful and come-up with another good SONG.

  75. Unknown says:

There is nothing wrong in this song. Citing our Great National Anthem doesn\’t make anyone a deshbhakt by virtue… one has to realize the truth and act. Ramu, I don\’t agree if someone says it\’s an insult to our National Anthem and nation. It\’s indeed a wake up call.

  76. Ravi says:

Jana gana ManaRann thaana dhim taanaa zakhmi jue bhaarat ayee bachaalo bhaagya vidhaataaPunjaba Sindh Gujarat MarathaSab maaar maar ke marr raha hai aayo police bachaaloooFaaalthoo song sing those lyrics for yourself to decide if you call those "LYRICS" and if you call it a "SONG" and if at all there should be so many controversies around this "ESSAY" and you giving so much credits and hypes to that essay writer Sarim Mom

  77. Ravi says:

And if you still feel this essay fits to be a song, I insist that you should give me a chance to write some essays errr songs in your film. I\’m sure I can write better than Sarim Momin

ramu, here i send you an article written on our national anthem. just read it and comment on it.Controversy exists regarding the appropriateness of Jana Gana Mana as the national anthem of an independent India. The poem was composed in December 1911, precisely at the time of the Coronation Durbar of George V, and is considered by some to be a paean in praise of "the overlord of India\’s destiny". The composition was first sung during a convention of the then loyalist Indian National Congress in Calcutta on Dec. 16, 1911.[9] It was sung on the second day of the convention, and the agenda of that day devoted itself to a loyal welcome of George V on his visit to India. The event was reported thus in the Indian press:"The Bengali poet Babu Rabindranath Tagore sang a song composed by him specially to welcome the Emperor." (Statesman, Dec. 28, 1911)"The proceedings began with the singing by Babu Rabindranath Tagore of a song specially composed by him in honour of the Emperor." (Englishman, Dec. 28, 1911)"When the proceedings of the Indian National Congress began on Wednesday 27th December 1911, a Bengali song in welcome of the Emperor was sung. A resolution welcoming the Emperor and Empress was also adopted unanimously." (Indian, Dec. 29, 1911)
